Middleman

There will be a point in our lives that we ask ourselves certain questions no matter how ridiculous some of these questions may seem to be. The stirring of our curiosity may come from news we heard from the television, or perhaps something that we’ve read from the daily paper or a gossip eavesdropped from the table next to yours in a restaurant you always frequent. If you are the type of person who finds interest in business topics then you must have encountered the word “middleman” in one of your readings. But do you know what the word means and what it suggests? Here we proudly give you a thorough explanation of what the word means and the role it portrays in the business industry.

In the business world, when a person purchases a particular product directly from the one who produces it and then intends to sell it to the general public or to a chosen distributor at retail or wholesale prices, is considered a middleman. There can actually be more than just one if you choose to find a distributor and to sell the products at wholesale prices. This person can buy the product directly from the producer yet still is capable of working with another man of the same description, who purchases for a distributor.

If you find this information rather confusing and mind boggling then here is an example based on the definition of the word earlier described to make it more comprehensible. Take for example a small-time business oriented housewife who has the talent of baking delectable pies. She can directly sell her products to a grocery store without involving any middleman. Through this bypassing act, she can market her products at a much higher price. But despite this given information, the end result of her profit may be just the same as that if she got another person involved to sell her products. If she chooses to do it all on her own she will be spending extra money, effort and a lot of her time to distribute and sell her products.

If this businesswoman chose to work with and involve a middleman to her business, this particular person can either distribute the products in stalls at a mall or at grocery stores. Through this information, another probable question will arise. What will happen to the products if you involve another person in your business? This will only mean that the price of products will be lowered but inspite of this, almost all of the products will be sold. Of course, if this would be the case then the businesswoman will gain more profit with lesser time expended rather than having to sell her goods on her own and focuses on direct distribution.

This concept can also apply to any other producer or manufacturer who wishes to advertise and sell their products to the masses. This person is held responsible in ordering the products to be sold at a price that has already been negotiated with the producers themselves. This person can either choose to sell the products directly or to other stores or companies that will eventually sell the products.

As a manufacturer, it would be best to know ahead of time the number of items that are going to be ordered. This is done by the middleman, for he will be the one responsible to do the pre-ordering process so that only the exact number of products needed will be produced. You may want to talk to Michael Kimberley about this. If the manufacturers will not be aware of this, they will continue to produce products that eventually will not be sold, thus, spending unnecessary money. This person who is involved in this business transaction is considered both as a buyer and at the same time as a seller.
